Special Populations and Horses

Doxy’s would like to bring horses into the lives of special populations to add to and stimulate their experiences and memories. We believe the lives of many special people can be improved by having the opportunity to meet selected horses from Doxy’s.

How will you use the $2,500?

Without having a horse trailer to transport the horses, we rely on being able to borrow one each time our horses leave our property. Having the financial resources from this grant to purchase a used trailer would enable us to take horses out to many special groups, particularly those living in hospice, group homes, specialized day programs, assisted living facilities, and nursing homes.

What a wonderful experience for special populations to meet and greet horses! These individuals often have the opportunity to interact with a variety of small animals but, WOW, a horse. For some this may be a first time experience and for others it may re-kindle memories of activities and relationships with horses. Let's help Doxy's expand their interest in working with these special people

As a volunteer with Doxy's, I've been able to attend several events with our horses.Many people don't think about horses as therapy animals, but I know differently. I've seen first hand the joy that these horses bring to people of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities. A horse trailer of our own would really allow us to reach out even more than we do now. That would benefit the community, our Doxy's family, and our horses. Please vote for Doxy's Horse Recovery. Thank you.

I am supporter as much as possible of Doxy's. I have watched the folks working with the horses. These horses are rehabilitated into gentle sweet horses with their own little personallities. I so approve of Doxy's and the work they are doing on behalf of unwanted horses. I didn't realize they have to borrow a trailer to take the horses to events. I fully support the trailer for Doxy's. Anyway I can be of help to them, I'm more than glad to do so. A crippled horse giving a crippled person a kiss on the cheek....how awesome. Many ways to connect. Schools, children's clubs such as 4-H teaching love and care for animals, etc.

I am a volunteer at Doxy's Horse Recovery and have seen first-hand the joy and learning that goes on when we are able to take our horses out into the public to meet people of all ages and abilities. We would really like to be able to afford our own trailer to do more of these visits in the community. Today, we rely on friends and volunteers and schedules don't always align. To win this award would mean so much to the volunteers, the horses, and all of the people in our community we impact. Please vote for Doxy's Horse Recovery to win!
